Canary Islands Teachers’ Coordination Roles and Compensation Regulation

Starting in 2025, the Canary Islands government has approved a new regulation to recognize and compensate teachers who take on additional coordination roles across various educational fields. These roles include promoting equality, cultural heritage, natural preservation, dual vocational training, innovation, entrepreneurship, and career guidance in public schools.

The initiative aims to adapt to social changes and evolving educational needs by offering financial incentives for teachers who effectively perform these functions during the school year.

Selection Criteria for Coordinators

  • The regulation specifies how coordinators are selected.
  • Emphasis on experience, relevant training, and stability within the schools.
  • Roles in equality and cultural heritage will be assigned primarily to teachers with prior experience and specialized training.
  • Coordinators in dual vocational training, innovation, and entrepreneurship must demonstrate previous involvement in related projects or possess specific certifications.

Payment and Compensation

  • Payments will be processed monthly from September to June.
  • A single gratification per person, regardless of the number of roles undertaken.
  • Absences, illness, or vacations during the school year will lead to proportional deductions in compensation.

This move reflects a broader effort to enhance teacher recognition and support initiatives that align with societal and educational developments, ultimately benefiting the quality of education in the region.
