Education Reform Bill Passes Regional Parliament
The Canary Islands Regional Parliament has approved a comprehensive education reform bill designed to modernize the curriculum and teaching methods across all public schools in the archipelago. The legislation, which passed with bipartisan support, represents the most significant update to the region's education system in over fifteen years.
Key Components of the Reform
- Integration of digital literacy and technology-based learning across all subjects
- Emphasis on environmental education and sustainable development
- Increased autonomy for schools to adapt curriculum to local needs
- Additional support for multilingual education, with English language instruction beginning at earlier ages
- New teacher training programs focused on innovative teaching methodologies
The reform package includes €45 million in funding for technology infrastructure upgrades, teacher professional development, and curriculum development over the next three years.
"This reform puts our students at the center of their learning journey, preparing them with the skills they'll need for success in a rapidly changing world," said the Education Minister.
Implementation will begin with a pilot program in 20 selected schools next semester, with full rollout scheduled for the 2026-27 academic year. Parents and educators can learn more about the changes at upcoming community forums scheduled throughout the summer months.
