Canary Islands Emergency Power Plant Project

Project Overview

The Canary Islands government has announced plans to approve a new emergency power plant in Telde, Gran Canaria, developed by Disa Generación. The project involves:

  • Installing a 14.8 MW electricity generation facility powered by generators and propane storage.
  • Aiming to boost local energy resilience.

Location and Infrastructure

Located in the El Goro industrial zone, the plant will include:

  • Storage tanks for propane
  • A propane tanker loading dock
  • Eight generators
  • Auxiliary electrical buildings

Additionally, a substation will connect this plant to the existing grid, improving energy distribution in the area.

Public Consultation

Authorities have opened a public consultation period lasting 30 days, inviting residents and businesses to review project details and submit comments or objections.

This transparency aims to involve the local community in decisions about infrastructure that could impact their environment and energy supply.

Broader Context

The new plant is part of broader efforts to:

  • Diversify energy sources
  • Ensure a reliable power supply for Gran Canaria

The investment, valued at over 27 million euros, underscores the island’s focus on maintaining energy stability while integrating cleaner, emergency power options.
