The Canary Islands government has announced a public consultation on a new energy storage installation planned for San Agustín, Gran Canaria. The project, proposed by Naos Energy IX, S.L., involves establishing:
- a 7MW battery energy storage system
- with a capacity of over 40 MWh — enough to supply electricity for roughly five and a half hours.
This development aims to:
- support renewable energy integration
- stabilize local power supplies.
Project Details
The installation will occupy about 1,000 square meters and will include:
- eight storage containers
- transformers
- infrastructure for energy evacuation via underground 820-meter-long cable.
The project, valued at over 4.2 million euros, also includes:
- an environmental impact assessment.

Authorities are opening a 30-day window for public review and comments, allowing residents and interested parties to examine the project plans at the local energy office.
