The Canary Islands' government has launched a new funding round aimed at supporting local goat and sheep dairy producers and artisanal cheese makers. Backed by European funds, the program allocates over €10 million to boost the island's dairy industry in 2025.
Producers selling milk to local dairies and artisanal cheese producers are eligible to apply. The initiative aims to:
- Strengthen the region’s agricultural sector
- Promote sustainable practices
- Ensure the availability of locally-produced dairy products
Funding Details
- Total allocation: over €10 million
- Main categories:
- €1.92 million for dairy industries and cheese factories
- Over €8.5 million for farmers selling milk directly
- Help amounts are based on:
- The quantity of milk purchased or produced
- Higher subsidies for farms in remote islands like Lanzarote and Fuerteventura
Application Process
- Producers must submit applications electronically
- Application periods:
- July 1 to July 31, 2025, for the first half of the year's milk
- January 1 to January 31, 2026, for the second half
