Starting January 1, 2026, the Canary Islands' health authorities have increased the daily allowances for patients and their companions who need accommodation and meals when receiving treatment outside their home region.
New Rate Highlights
- The accommodation allowance has been raised to 106.94 euros per day.
- The meal allowance has been increased to 39 euros per day.
- For long-term stays beyond three months, a monthly cap of 1,900 euros applies to cover lodging and meals.
Purpose of the Update
This update aims to ensure patients have sufficient financial support for their necessary stays far from home, a crucial factor in maintaining access to healthcare, especially amid economic challenges.
Additional Details
The new rules also specify that if patients receive free lodging or meals from public agencies, they won't get the corresponding allowances. For example, if meals are covered in full by a subsidy, the meal allowance won't be provided.
