Water Conservation Measures Announced
The Canary Islands Government today announced a series of new water conservation measures aimed at addressing growing concerns about water scarcity across the archipelago. These measures come in response to recent studies indicating decreasing rainfall patterns and increased water consumption in tourist areas.
New Regulations Include
- Mandatory water-saving devices in all new construction projects
- Restrictions on irrigation of public gardens during daytime hours
- Financial incentives for households installing rainwater collection systems
- Implementation of advanced leak detection systems across municipal water networks
"Water is our most precious resource, and we must take decisive action now to ensure its availability for future generations," said the Environmental Minister during the announcement.
The measures will be gradually implemented starting next month, with full enforcement expected by the end of the year. A public awareness campaign will also be launched to educate residents about simple water conservation techniques that can be adopted at home.
Public information sessions will be held in major municipalities throughout June to address questions and provide guidance on the new regulations.
